Our Story

ABOUT THE FOUNDERS:

Both Tensas natives, Jessica & Stacey Mobley lived 20 years in the Nashville area, many of which were spent building a successful food truck and restaurant business. In 2019, they began making plans for relocating back to Louisiana with hopes of opening another restaurant. When they learned another local couple had purchased a suitable building in St. Joseph and had plans for restoring it for retail use, a wonderful collaboration was formed allowing The Walking Pig to become a reality.

Jessica Berry Mobley is the chef and baker creating the menu and running the kitchen operation at The Walking Pig. With deep roots in the Louisiana & Mississippi Delta, she grew up in nearby Waterproof, Louisiana on her family’s farm. After moving to Tennessee, she pursued a career in the culinary arts, from baking and custom design work to cooking and restaurant management. In 2012, she proposed the concept of the Delta Bound food truck to Stacey, and they’ve been a business team ever since.

Stacey Mobley is the general manager at The Walking Pig, and also takes a role in menu development through his knowledge of smoking meats and traditional BBQ techniques. In Tennessee, Stacey pursued a career in video & film production, worked in several aspects of the industry, and eventually began to work his way into the restaurant business. A born entrepreneur, he took hold of the mobile food idea, and together with Jessica, they created one of the most popular trucks in the Nashville area. After three years of winning accolades and appearing on two shows for The Cooking Channel, they moved Delta Bound into a brick & mortar location. They enjoyed consistent success in business for 6 more years before deciding to move back home.

WHAT IS THE WALKING PIG?

Named after an iconic cafe & tavern in St. Joseph, The Walking Pig is a modern Southern pub serving a varied menu of hand-crafted foods & beverages. Housed in a beautifully renovated 1930’s storefront in the business district of Plank Road, The Walking Pig is surrounded by an eclectic downtown scene of boutique shopping, art, history, and architecture, all nestled at the foot of the Mississippi River Levee and blocks away from the historic Tensas Parish Courthouse. Our scratch kitchen produces traditional favorites as well as creative versions of regional classics, all enjoyed in an airy open dining room with wide views of downtown St. Joe. The grand antique bar offers a comfortable, casual place to relax with your favorite libation. If something sweeter is in order, there is always a selection of homestyle desserts made in-house.
